Halogen Ovens - A Guide

The halogen oven, like toasters, electric grilling machines, and toaster ovens, was designed to simplify cooking and save energy. Traditional ovens are often too large for the job at hand. To use a traditional oven to toast bread is wasteful. The space in the oven is large and must heat up first before the bread can be toasted. That's why we use toasters for the job. A toaster won't cook a canned biscuit, so we use toaster ovens for those. And now we have the halogen oven. In the hot summer months there is much less wasted heat escaping into the kitchen and heating up the house when using it. This gives the air conditioner and the energy budget a huge break.

Defrosting in the halogen oven is possible and some models have a defrost option. There may be times when defrosting is needed, but the beauty of these ovens is that they will cook frozen meat thoroughly and evenly without defrosting. It simply takes it a little longer. This is a great plus with poultry like chicken and turkey. These are two items that make a mess when defrosting and that mess, the juices and blood, is a major cause of the spread of salmonella. Cooking straight from the freezer without defrosting removes this hazard from the home. Cooking with a halogen oven is also healthier. The wind from the fan that circulates the heat and makes the oven so efficient also blows fats off the meat and drains them away from the food and the arteries!

Different types of foods can be cooked in the halogen oven at the same time. This means that while cooking the main entree, the vegetables can be cooked right along beside it or around it. A meal of chicken, baked potatoes and broccoli goes in at the same time and comes out at the same, making meals and cleanup much simpler. There are plenty of recipes that can be found online exclusively for these ovens and many other recipes can be adapted to it. Breads can be toasted while entrees and vegetables cook. Cakes can be baked in it. Soups can even be made in it. With the use of extra racks the possibilities are endless and clean-up is simple. With its energy saving capabilities, the halogen oven is arguably a green alternative. With the affordability of the halogen oven, the money and time saved will easily outweigh the money spent.
